Meet the NTF Skater of the Year

By Charlie & Tish - May 18, 2004
Reggie Morrison -- NTF Skater of the Year

CONGRATULATIONS, REGGIE!

Well, the voting is in! Charlie received over one hundred email messages with votes for the NTF Skater of the year. Drum Roll, please....the NTF Skater is.....Southern Speed's Reggie Morrison!

Charlie comments: As the announcer of the NTF's I get a chance to watch athletes grow and mature as skaters. The first time I saw Reggie race was our first NTF in Lilburn, GA. Reggie showed more heart that weekend, fall after fall, he kept getting back up and kept going harder and harder. Most beginners and even some advance skaters, when they fall, just quit, NOT REGGIE !

As the year progressed, Reggie got stronger and stronger as an athlete, and having the opportunity to talk w/ Reggie this year, he impressed me with his love of the sport and determination to get better, which he did, every time he stepped on the skate floor.

  • As the votes came in, it was a close race for who everyone thought should be the NTF Skater of the year. To award Reggie Morrison as the NTF Skater of the Year was a complete honor on my part, I don't think a finer skater could have won this award !
  • As the winner of this year's NTF Skater of the Year award, Reggie received a plaque from Sports Scene, a new set of wheels from Hyper Racing, his Columbus NTF entry fee paid, and a bio page at www.naturalability.com. In addition, USARS has heard of our honor for this outstanding skater and they are going to give him a complementary 2004-2005 USARS membership!

Are YOU the NTF Skater of the Year?

    By Charlie Bennett - April 22, 2004
Verrell Sayles -- JO Tiny Tot

As we come to a close of this years NTF Race series, I have decided to do something a little different to help honor skaters who have traveled all year, shown support to the NTF's and have worked hard to improve their skating skills. At our last NTF, in Columbus Georgia, Natural Ability Sports will be honoring one skater as the NTF SKATER OF THE YEAR.

As the announcer of the NTF's, I get the privilege of seeing all the skaters improve through out the year, not only as skaters, but as ambassadors of our sport. I feel this is just another way of saying thank you to the skaters who take part in the NTF'S, and maybe also this gives the skaters one more thing to shoot for through out the year !

The winning skater will receive a plaque, courtesy of Eddy and Linda Howard (Sports Scene of Georgia), a Set of Hyper Race wheels, courtesy of Hyper Racing, and a Featured Athlete Page on www.naturalabilitysports.com. YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS !! Come to Columbus on MAY 16th to see if you or one of your teammates is the winner of the FIRST NTF SKATER OF THE YEAR.

Editor's note: This weekend, in Gulf Breeze Florida, marks the 4th in our five race series known as the NTF. The NTF Race series is an opportunity for club beginners to get together and compete without the pressures (and expense) of a big invitational. Each meet has a theme (Valentines, Mother's Day, etc) and usually considers fun as important as the skating. The older skaters help us referee, judge, & lapcount. We have been lucky to have Charlie help us out with his awesome announcing. He knows how to keep it interesting for all! Some of the proceeds from the NTF go to beginning skaters who qualify for Nationals -- hence the name -- National Travel Fund.
