2001 US Cup - Stage 2

By Gary Heffelfinger - January 28, 2001

Members of the team travelled to Team Florida country, Ocala Florida, for the second stop on the US Cup season. It was quite the star-studded affair with top skaters from around the country and even a few from other countries. Names like Chad Hedrick, Harry Vogel, Fourth Lacey and Chad "Bird" Burdzilauskas burned up the men's pro ranks. While Julie Glass, Cheryl Motula (Ezell), Jessica Smith and Kimberly Derrick showed us what the pro ladies could do.

It was GT's own Ryan Cox, however, who showed us how it's done. Ryan took a blazing flyer in the pro men's 1500M final and won it running away. The Pro men's "last man out" was also quite a race. It started out with a massive pileup which took down about a dozen skaters--including Ryan--and ended with a sweet head-to-head battle between Chad Hedrick and Ryan. Unfortunately, Ryan tangled with Chad near the end of the race and took a second fall, ending his hopes for a first place finish.
